Branislav Ivanovic is set to be punished for his poor start to the season by being dropped for Chelsea’s upcoming clash against West Bromwich Albion, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 31-year-old was an ever-present during the last campaign, and was invaluable as the Blues clinched their fourth Premier League title. However, his struggles against Jefferson Montero of Swansea and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has seen Jose Mourinho ring the changes.
The Mirror report that new signing Baba Rahman will come straight into the side at left-back to make his debut at the Hawthorns, while Cesar Azpilicueta will move into his more natural position on the right side of the back four.
John Terry’s place in the side is also under threat following his half-time substitution during the defeat to Man City, the Mirror claim, with Kurt Zouma potentially taking his place in what is already a must-not-lose game.
While the title would certainly not be out of reach if Tony Pulis’ side took all three points on Sunday, the psychological impact that defeat could have could seriously dent their chances of retaining their league crown.
And while Terry and Ivanovic have not impressed so far this campaign, leaving them out could well be a risk given the Baggies’ physical style.
