Augsburg full-back Baba Rahman is set to have a medical ahead of a £17.5m move to Chelsea, according to the Metro.
The two clubs were in discussions for weeks regarding the 21-year-old, the Metro report, but it appears that they have finally reached a breakthrough in negotiations, with the Ghana international set to complete his Stamford Bridge switch.
The Premier League champions needed to find another option on the left-hand side of defence, after letting Filipe Luis return to former club Atletico Madrid (via BBC Sport).
Jose Mourinho came to rely on Cesar Azpilicueta last season, and while the Spaniard did a fantastic job, and was arguably one of the most consistent players in the top flight last year, he is more natural at right-back, and if he had sustained an injury, the Blues would have had to utilise someone uncomfortable in the position. Centre-back Kurt Zouma has been used on the left in pre-season.
Like the team he is joining, Rahman enjoyed a fantastic year last season. He was arguably Augsburg’s best player, and helped them finish fifth in the Bundesliga, and in the process, qualify for the Europa League.
