Chelsea striker Diego Costa has sparked fears that he may be looking to leave the club with the Daily Express claiming that he met with Atletico Madrid president Miguel Angel Gil during the off season.
Costa only joined the club last summer, but enjoyed a successful debut campaign in West London, bagging himself 20 goals in the league as they lifted both the title and the Capital One Cup.
However, despite his good form and his popularity amongst the fans, the Spanish international apparently seems keen on making a return to Madrid with Marca claiming that he met with the Atletico president whilst on holiday in Ibiza earlier this summer.
The Express explains that Costa informed Gil of his intentions to return to Atletico with the latter then making an inquiry with Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes, about the possibility of a deal.
But Mendes has apparently shot down the talk of a deal, with the 26-year-old’s wages believed to be a huge stumbling block (via Marca).
The news may come as a shock to Chelsea fans, especially with him expected to lead the line again this season, but if his injury concerns continue to plague him, the club may be smart to offload him in search of somebody with more stable hamstrings.
