Chelsea have ended a very disappointing day in positive fashion after they confirmed on their official website that they have completed the signing of Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman.
The 21-year-old moves to Stamford Bridge for £21.7m, according to the Daily Express. The Blues had been looking for a new player on the left-hand side of defence following the sale of Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer.
The Ghana international had established himself as one of the most exciting defenders in the game, after a sensational season in the Bundesliga. He was part of the Augsburg side that stunned everyone by finishing fifth in the top flight, and subsequently qualified for this year’s Europa League.
The announcement of Rahman’s arrival comes just hours after Jose Mourinho watched his side lose to a clinical Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The three goals that Manuel Pellegrini’s side managed during the clash means that the champions have already shipped five goals during the first two games of the new season.
Mourinho will be hoping that Rahman is able to help the club’s back four re-establish themselves as one of the most reliable defences in the Premier League.
