Stoke City have confirmed on their official website that former Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri has completed his move to the Britannia Stadium.
The Potters confirmed that the Switzerland international has signed a five-year deal with Mark Hughes’ men, having joined the side for a club record £12m, and will wear the number 22 (via club’s official website).
The club also revealed that the playmaker will be in contention for their second game of the new Premier League season against Tottenham on Saturday.
While a couple of years ago it would seem unthinkable for someone of Shaqiri’s talent to turn up at Stoke City, who were – perhaps unfairly – synonymous with a physical, route one style, the deal becomes the latest in a continually-expanding line for exciting and gifted players.
Shaqiri’s arrival means that the Potters now have an incredible five Champions League winners in their squad, which is the joint most in the Premier League.
While it is too early to suggest that Hughes’ men will be competing for a place in the top four anytime soon, this deal – as well as the ones that have come before – would suggest that they are certainly setting their sights very high.
