Former England hero Gary Lineker has summed up how the football world feels about Jose Mourinho’s shocking decision to ban club doctor Eva Carneiro from the Chelsea bench in future, after she essentially did her job during the draw with Swansea City.
BBC Sport report that Mourinho was unhappy with Carneiro after she ran onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard during the latter stages of the game at Stamford Bridge, and decided to publicly question whether she understood the game in his post-match comments. Her presence on the pitch meant that the Belgian had to leave temporarily, leaving the Blues down to nine men for a brief spell.
“Whether you are a kit man, doctor or secretary on the bench you have to understand the game,” he claimed.
If that wasn’t harsh enough, BBC Sport suggest that Carneiro’s responsibilities have been hugely decreased in the wake of the incident, and she is now not to attend matches or training sessions.
In response to the punishment from Mourinho, Lineker has highlighted how unfair the treatment of Carneiro has been by joking that because he knows about football, but not about being a doctor, he could apply for Carneiro’s job.
Might apply for the Chelsea doctor’s job given the applicant must understand football. Not sure if any medical knowledge is required.
