It has emerged that Labour leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn once helped to try and pass a law that would officially name Arsenal as the best team in the world, the Metro report.
The MP signed the motion in 2004, following the Gunners’ sensational season where they won the Premier League, having gone through the whole campaign unbeaten. Sadly for Arsenal fans however, the 66-year-old was one of just four members of parliament – all of whom were from the Labour party – to sign the petition.
The Metro report that – unsurprisingly – Corbyn is an Arsenal supporter, and has often tweeted his support for Arsene Wenger when calls have been made for the Frenchman to resign.
Unfortunately for the pro-Wenger MP, he may find that should the motion be launched once again, that even fewer names sign to declare their belief that the Gunners are the greatest. The north London side have already been ruled out of the title race by many following their humbling defeat to West Ham.
Corbyn will be hoping however, that Arsenal can sort themselves in the very near future, and put themselves in the same position that he currently enjoys in the Labour leadership polls.
