Liverpool are said to be closing in on the double signing of Asier Illarramendi and Denis Cheryshev as talks with both players are believed to be progressing well, according to the Metro.
The Reds have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, but have retained an interest in Illarramendi throughout as they continue to attempt to plug the gap left by club legend Steven Gerrard, who departed at the end of last season.
However, they still have a gap left by winger Raheem Sterling to fill, and are hoping that Cheryshev will be the ideal man to take over. The Russian flyer impressed on loan with fellow La Liga side Villarreal last season, and is thought to be within their grasp as he has an asking price of just £14.2m.
Liverpool are hoping to be able to attract the players with the lure of regular first team football, as neither are regular starters at the Santiago Bernabeu.
