Liverpool may be about to spark a bidding war with Arsenal, after they planned to make a £14.9m offer for Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev, according to the Daily Express.
Brendan Rodgers wants the Russian international to provide some attacking width to his side following the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City, the Express report, and is willing to include a buy-back clause in the deal which would allow Los Blancos to resign the 24-year-old should he prove to be a success at Anfield.
However, the Gunners are also keen on bringing Cheryshev to the Premier League, and the Express suggest that they are preparing a bid of their own.
Rafael Benitez is unlikely to stand in his way should an acceptable offer come in. Cheryshev is yet to make a La Liga appearance for Madrid, and has spent the last two seasons out on loan with Sevilla and Villarreal respectively.
However, it seems unlikely that he will be able to enjoy the kind of game time he would be hoping for should he move to England. Both sides’ most creative players tend to enjoy working in the centre of the pitch, and they will be the ones that Cheryshev is most likely to be competing with for a place in the side.
