Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all been put on alert, after the Daily Express claimed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic plans to leave Paris Saint-Germain and wants a move to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old has played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but has yet to play for an English side. And with time clearly running out on his career, it appears that it is either now or never for the Swede.
The Express report that the former Barcelona forward’s wages are likely to be the only stumbling block, as he will be available for a relatively small fee.
While the Blues already have three main strikers to call upon, and are thus the team in least need of the maverick, both Arsenal and United look worryingly thin in terms of goalscoring options.
Gunners fans were treated to a sensational Olivier Giroud goal against Crystal Palace at the weekend, but know all too well that he and his understudy Theo Walcott are vulnerable to injury.
Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal let Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao move on this summer, and, judging by the first two games of the new Premier League season, he appears less than willing to use Javier Hernandez. That leaves Wayne Rooney as the side’s only senior option up front.
And with the captain failing to get on the scoresheet during either game, there will surely be plenty of calls for the Dutchman to bring the enigmatic striker to Old Trafford.
