Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Dynamo Moscow about a potential move for striker Aleksandr Kokorin, according to the Metro.
The Metro suggest that the Red Devils are keen on the 24-year-old, and may not find it difficult to bring him to Old Trafford as Dynamo are willing to sell.
However, having apparently missed out on Pedro (via BBC Sport), this is surely the kind of uninspiring signing that is unlikely to appease disgruntled supporters.
Despite playing all of his domestic career in Russia – which is a considerably less competitive division than the Premier League – he has hardly been prolific. In two spells with his current side, he has managed just 38 goals in 165 top flight matches.
With time running out on the transfer window, the chances of Louis van Gaal landing more than one forward appear to be diminishing. And while the arrival of Thomas Muller (via Metro) would capture fans’ imaginations and give them the confidence that they do not need another striker, the arrival of Kokorin will surely do little to inspire the crowds that van Gaal has a squad capable of winning the title.
