Manchester United are said to be lining up an ambitious double swoop for Germany internationals Julian Draxler and Mario Gotze, according to the Metro.
United boss Louis van Gaal has already put a heavy recruitment drive into practice this summer, bringing in the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian, Sergio Romero, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin.
However, the Dutchman has identified areas of his squad that still need strengthening and is plotting a double move for the Bundesliga megastars before the transfer window slams shut.
Italian giants Juventus had been credited with an interest in the Bayern Munich and Schalke stars, but now see their own transfer plans coming under threat by the Red Devils, who could now bring in either one or both of the players (via Tuttosport)..
The Tuttosport article also reports that Arsenal are monitoring their respective situations and could swoop into action themselves. Both the English sides would be able to offer more money than their Serie A counterparts, which will no doubt leave the side from Turin worried that their plans will soon be scuppered.
But Tuttosport also suggest that van Gaal could utilise his good relationship with Bayern – displayed when he brought in Bastian Schweinsteiger last month – to push through a deal for Gotze.
Gotze is said to have a strained relationship with Bayern boss Pep Gaurdiola, with his agent recently claiming that the Spaniard has “destroyed” the 23-year-old (via Daily Mail).
