Barcelona winger Pedro has apparently taken a giant step towards signing for Manchester United after telling the La Liga champions that he wants to leave the club, according to the Metro.
The 28-year-old was left out of the Barcelona starting XI to take on Sevilla in the European Super Cup after being expected to start in the wake of losing Neymar to the mumps (via the Metro).
Barcelona had been keen to keep him at the Nou Camp next season, but club director Robert Fernandez has claimed that the player has handed in an official transfer request.
“The coach and myself and the president want him to stay. He is a player who brings a lot of things, but it has to be him to decide,” he said.
“Pedro has told me he wants to go.”
The Catalonians will now hold firm on the £21.2m release clause installed in his contract, as the Metro believe that they are becoming increasingly resigned to losing out on keeping him where he is.
“The clause Pedro is not negotiable, but it may be his last game.”
It has been mooted for several weeks now that the Spanish international would be the ideal replacement for Angel Di Maria, who departed Old Trafford to join Paris Saint Germain in a £44.3m deal last week (via Sky Sports).
