Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan is set to play his final game for Benfica, before he completes his move to Old Trafford, according to the Metro.
The attacking midfielder is set to play a part in the side’s Portuguese Super Cup clash with Sporting Lisbon on Sunday, but will then join Louis van Gaal’s side, the Metro suggest.
The Red Devils have a verbal agreement in place with Rui Vitoria’s side that will see the 27-year-old move to the Premier League for £21.1m (via Metro). However, Valencia are also interested on signing the Argentinian, so could yet scupper a deal.
Should he join United, he will be able to offer van Gaal a lot of versatility, having adapted expertly to several roles for Benfica. With the Dutchman set to continue with the 4-3-3 system that he trialled in pre-season (via Manchester Evening News), Gaitan is most likely to find himself as part of the front three, due to the lack of options currently available to the manager.
However, he can also be trusted to play slightly deeper as part of the midfield trio, and should van Gaal decide to ditch the formation if it is not working, he should be capable of changing his style also.
