Manchester United are said to be weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann after Chelsea beat them to the punch for Pedro, the Metro reports.
The Barcelona man had looked destined to head for Old Trafford this summer, but United’s constant haggling over the price left the door open for Chelsea to jump in and land his signature (via Metro).
The Metro claim that Pedro was seen as the ideal replacement for Angel Di Maria, but with just over 10 days left of the current transfer window manager Louis van Gaal is now on the lookout for another player that can display ‘speed and creativity’.
And now a report in the Daily Mail has surfaced claiming that United have targeted France international Griezmann, who was once on the radar of their Premier League rivals.
However, Griezmann has a £57m release clause installed in his contract (via Metro), which is over double the £22m they would have had to pay for Pedro (via Daily Mail), and there will surely be doubts over whether the Red Devils will have the same problem this time around.
There is no question that United need another attacking outlet, but a lot could come down to how desperate they get in the remaining embers of another busy transfer window.
