Ajax boss Frank De Boer has issued a defiant message to Manchester United that if they want Jasper Cillessen, they are going to have to make a bid that the Eredivisie side cannot turn down, the Daily Express report.
The Red Devils may lose three goalkeepers this summer (via Daily Mail), including David de Gea, whose agent is desperately trying to get a move to Real Madrid done during this window, according to the Metro.
With Sergio Romero being backed up by serial loanee Sam Johnstone for the opening game of the Premier League season against Tottenham, Louis van Gaal has reportedly made Cillessen his number one target (via Express), but De Boer does not plan to allow the 26-year-old to go cheaply.
“Man United will have to pay a huge price for Cillessen. Let it be clear that we are going to take a really strong attitude and we will fight against him leaving at this stage,” he insisted.
“Why? Because we have seen all our three alternatives go out of sight and it gets harder and harder to find a decent replacement,” he added.
While de Gea has not seemingly made things difficult for his manager, despite his desire to head to the Bernabeu, his performances in pre-season suggested that his focus was not fully on his current side.
Van Gaal appears to keen to avoid a situation like the one he has endured this summer, with de Gea apparently keen to leave while Victor Valdes has reportedly refused to obey his manager’s wishes and play for the reserve side (via Sky Sports).
Having worked with Cillessen at international level, he will be confident that he knows the kind of player he is signing, should they manage to make the kind of bid that will satisfy De Boer.
