Ahead of their meeting on the opening day of the new Premier League season, Manchester United have reportedly made a bid to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane, according to the Metro.
However, the Metro report that the White Hart Lane side rejected the offer for their star man after it was made last week (via Marca).
But, the Red Devils may still have some hope of landing the 22-year-old, after the Metro suggested that a further offer of at least £45m may be accepted by their top flight rivals.
Given the campaign that Kane enjoyed last year, it is little surprise that Louis van Gaal wants to get a deal done for the England international. He scored 21 goals in just 34 games despite having only a small amount of experience at the highest level previously.
The timing of the bid seems hardly coincidental. As mentioned, the two sides meet at Old Trafford on Saturday, and while the Dutchman will probably want to add Kane to his ranks – especially with his current options looking so thin – he will be hoping that if they can’t complete a move before the game, the bid manages to unsettle the forward enough that he is not able to open his account at the Theatre of Dreams.
