Manchester United defender Rafael is set to follow teammate Angel Di Maria (via BBC Sport) and swap Old Trafford for France this summer.
The Daily Express report that Lyon’s club president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that the 25-year-old had arrived to undergo a medical ahead of a potential move to the Ligue 1 side.
The right-back has made over 100 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, but found opportunities very limited under Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman often opted to use midfielder Antonio Valencia on the right-hand side of defence, restricting the Brazilian to just 11 appearances in all competitions, and only one after January.
And his chances of breaking into the team this year seemed even more slim after United completed a deal to sign Italy international Matteo Darmian. Rather than watch his career possibly stagnate on the bench, Rafael has decided to move on.
With him set to join Lyon, and with Di Maria set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain (via BBC Sport), it could well be their battle when the two sides meet that goes a long way to deciding where the Ligue 1 title heads this year.
