Chelsea will be able to announce that they have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Barcelona winger Pedro imminently, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Premier League champions cemented their place in the race to sign the attacker after making a similar bid to the one made by Louis van Gaal’s side. However, their offer involved only €2m of the total €30m fee being paid additionally, whereas United’s offer consisted of €25m up front, with €5m being paid at a later stage (via Marca).
The Red Devils had appeared to be in pole position to sign the 28-year-old (via Metro), but Marca claim that Chelsea’s bid was more attractive to the Catalan club, thus leaving the path clear for Jose Mourinho to land the Spanish international.
Marca suggest that the deal is now close to being completed, as the World Cup winner is already in London to undergo a medical.
Louis van Gaal has now given up on signing the Barca man (via Metro), and may now have to deal with the fact that one of their main rivals for the Premier League title are set to snap him up.
