Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva believes that Angel Di Maria is set to join a bigger club as he prepares to complete his move from Manchester United.
According to the Daily Express, the 30-year-old thinks that while Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are some way ahead of the rest, the Ligue 1 side are the next best thing currently.
“Real Madrid and Barcelona are probably on another level, but after that if you are joining PSG it means you are probably taking a step up,” he claimed.
The Brazilian’s interesting suggestion comes as Di Maria closes in on his move to the Parc des Princes. The Express report that the 27-year-old was pictured in Doha as he prepared to undergo a medical before completing his £44m switch to Laurent Blanc’s team.
While the French side enjoyed a sensational year last season – winning the domestic treble – they did not manage to surprise many people in the Champions League, as, while they knocked Chelsea out in the last 16, they were emphatically beaten by Barcelona at the quarter-final stage.
And while the English sides failed to make much of an impression in the competition either, the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus – who arguably play in much more competitive leagues than France’s top flight – will certainly have something to say about Thiago Silva’s comments.
