Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez appears to have quashed Arsenal’s chances of landing Karim Benzema this summer by insisting that the Frenchman is not for sale, the Daily Express report.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates during this window, the Express suggest, but the former Chelsea boss has sent a defiant message to the Gunners.
“He will stay with us, I can’t see any reason why he would leave,” he stated.
While Benitez’s words would suggest that Arsene Wenger has very little chance of signing the former Lyon man, the Express previously reported that Los Blancos were lining up a bid for Sergio Aguero. Should they manage to sign the Manchester City man, Benitez may rethink his stance about whether he needs Benzema to stay.
The La Liga side currently have Cristiano Ronaldo and youngster Jese, who can also play up front, so should they complete a deal to sign Aguero, they may decide that they can get rid of the striker.
However, for now, it appears that Arsenal are set to miss out on Benzema.
