Real Madrid have made a £17.7m offer for David de Gea, and have told Manchester United that if they do not accept this bid, Los Blancos will sign the goalkeeper on a free transfer next summer, according to Spanish source ABC, the Metro report.
The Metro suggest that the La Liga giants have issued the ultimatum to try and get a deal done, but it appears that they would rather complete the move next summer than let speculation drag on for the rest of the window.
Louis van Gaal may well be interested by Madrid’s bid. Marca previously reported that the Dutchman wanted an end to the saga, even if that meant losing the Red Devils’ player of the season from last year this summer.
And Marca’s suggestion was seemingly proven correct as van Gaal had little hesitation about leaving the 24-year-old out of the opening game of the new Premier League campaign. The Spaniard was even snubbed for a place on the bench as Sam Johnstone was instead selected.
Van Gaal may be even more willing to accept the bid after the Metro reported that Madrid are willing to include Keylor Navas as part of the deal. The Costa Rican seemed set to be Rafa Benitez’s number one this term, but is obviously dispensable if de Gea heads to the Bernabeu.
