When Petr Cech signed for Arsenal, many football supporters felt that he may be the man that helps the Gunners’ end their wait for the Premier League title. However, based on his first showing for the north London side in the top flight, their wait may be about to go on for a while longer.
Arsene Wenger’s side had been in charge for much of the first-half against West Ham, but a free-kick two minutes before the break allowed Slaven Bilic’s men the chance to test Cech for the first time.
The 33-year-old came flying out to try and punch a Dimitri Payet free-kick, only to be beaten to the ball by Cheikhou Kouyate, who had the simple task of guiding his header into an empty net.
The day got worse for the former Chelsea stopper as he was unable to stop Mauro Zarate’s relatively simple strike, having been wrong-footed just before the Hammers forward’s shot.
There was little question who the finger of blame was pointed at following the 2-0 loss.
That is such an Arsenal first game of the season performance/loss. I was under the impression Petr Cech would help them win every game?
