Free agent French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff is set to sign a deal to join Ligue 1 side Rennes, according to the Daily Express.
The France international has been a free agent ever since leaving Lyon at the end of the previous campaign, and has since been linked with a host of top clubs, not just in France but in England, too.
Earlier in the summer, Gourcuff’s agent claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool had made enquiries into his signature (via Express).
However, both sides have since opted out, with a report in French publication 20 minutes claiming that he will wrap up a move to his former side Rennes on Tuesday afternoon.
Another return to Bordeaux had also been mooted, but they oped out as well.
Since breaking into the Rennes team as a prodigious 17-year-old, he has seen his stock fall dramatically over the years and has failed to live up to his reputation as the latest in a long line of ‘new Zinedine Zidane’s’.
