Arsenal are said to have made an offer for AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo during the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Express.
The player’s agent has claimed that there was some generous interest in the 30-year-old, but Milan refused to entertain any offers despite him only featuring 10 times in Serie A last season (via Express).
“There’s a strange hostility toward Montolivo,” his representative Giovanni Branchini said.
“There have been several teams asking about him, but neither us or Milan have taken any offers into consideration.”
However, The Express report goes on to state that The Gunners are already making preparations for an assault on the January window by lining up a £22m bid for Juventus forward Simone Zaza.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are keen to bring the Italian international to the club despite him only joining Juventus earlier in the summer.
The Express suggests that he has been told that he is surplus to requirements in Turin, as he will find himself behind the likes of Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic in the pecking order.
Should he fail to pick up much game time he could see his spot in the Italian national team come under threat ahead of the European Championships next summer, so a fresh start in the Premier League could be a welcome opportunity.
