Arsenal have reportedly made an unsuccessful attempt to bring Dynamo Moscow striker Aleksandr Kokorin to the Emirates in the final hours of the window, according to reports in Russia.
Sports report that the Gunners had offered to take the 24-year-old on loan for the rest of this season, before making his move permanent next summer when his contract with his parent club expires.
And while the Russia international was ready to make the switch, Sports suggest that Moscow rejected the move, and plan to offer the forward a new contract.
The failure to agree a deal means that Arsene Wenger will have to wait until January to make another move for Kokorin. And while Moscow’s stance may not have changed by that point, the player will be able to discuss terms with other sides about a Bosman move in the summer window if he refuses a new deal in Russia.
Nevertheless, the news will not please Arsenal fans. In terms of the strikers that have been linked with a switch during the last couple of months, a deal for Kokorin would have been arguably the most uninspiring, and they cannot even get that move done.
