Arsenal are set to battle with their north London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, according to the Daily Express.
The 21-year-old was being pursued by several top clubs during the summer, but none were willing to meet the Ligue 1 side’s valuation of £22m (via Express). However, with both the Premier League rivals lacking depth up front, the Express report that a January move may well be on the cards.
Although the Gunners have Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud to call upon to spearhead their attack, Arsene Wenger’s side arguably need another option to provide an extra hint of unpredictability given that the pair already at the Emirates are well known to the defences they come up against.
Meanwhile, Spurs’ main man Harry Kane is yet to score for his club this season, and appears in need of some of the pressure being removed – much like it was at the start of last season, and while on international duty earlier this campaign – to enable him to rediscover his best form.
While Batshuayi is inexperienced in comparison with the Arsenal pair, he has made a promising start to his career in France. He has started this term with three goals in his opening five games in the top flight.
The former Standard Liege forward has also made an impact on the international scene, bagging a goal during his only appearance for Marc Wilmots’ men in a victory over Cyprus in March.
