Arsene Wenger was reportedly keen on doing some business in the final days of the summer transfer window, after the Metro suggested that he instructed the Arsenal hierarchy to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.
As Arsenal fans unfortunately know, the Algeria international was one of several players that were linked with the Gunners during the window without actually joining the club, but it appears that Wenger did want to get this deal across the line.
The 24-year-old has made a blistering start to the new campaign, and has helped the Foxes sit third in the Premier League after four games despite being many people’s favourites to go down following the sacking of Nigel Pearson.
Mahrez’s four goals makes him the top flight’s joint top goalscorer, and has seen Catalan giants Barcelona sit up and take notice (via Metro).
If Mahrez builds upon his amazing start, Gunners supporters will be even more frustrated with the club’s board for failing to bring him in before the summer deadline.
