Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, after the youngster put in an excellent display during Chelsea’s emphatic victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League, the Daily Express report.
The 19-year-old was brought on for Willian, who sustained an injury in the 23rd minute of the game at Stamford Bridge, and proceeded to help the Blues keep a clean sheet and romp to a 4-0 win, and Mourinho expressed how pleased he was with the holding midfielder (via Express).
“He played very well which is very good for us,” he said.
“He is in conditions to compete with the other players for opportunities and minutes, but he is having minutes,” he added.
The boss’ praise comes just a couple of months after Loftus-Cheek was singled out for criticism following a lacklustre performance against Sydney in pre-season (via Daily Mail).
However, the fact that the youngster remained with the champions while 33 of his teammates were sent out on loan, arguably highlighted that he remained in Mourinho’s plans despite the dressing-down.
And following last night’s performance, the Express suggest that he could now be in contention to play against Arsenal at the weekend, in what is already proving to be something of a season-defining clash following their shaky start.
