Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic believes that the Blues are still contenders for the Premier League title this season despite their shaky start, the Daily Mail report.
With just one win in their opening four games, the champions find themselves eight points off the pace set by Manchester City, who claimed a 3-0 win against Jose Mourinho’s side in Begovic’s first start for his new club. And while the Bosnian admits they have struggled so far, he does back his teammates to turn it around completely (via Mail).
“We need to improve, we know that. But we definitely will – we’ve got the quality and character to really push on and challenge for the title,” he said.
Although it is still very early in the campaign, the Blues have a monumental task on their hands if they want to be lifting the title for a second successive year.
Swansea City and Crystal Palace have both come away from Stamford Bridge with points, while the Blues’ rivals have made a perfect start to the season, and have yet to concede a single goal.
Although Mourinho’s men have a visit from Arsenal to look forward to later this month, they now have a run of games ahead which they will back themselves to claim a large haul of points from.
Should they manage that, Begovic may be proven right and their title charge may be back on track.
