Chelsea have confirmed that they have no plans to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal despite losing Thibaut Courtois to a knee injury, the Daily Express reports.
Jose Mourinho told reporters that the Belgian international will be on the sidelines for “quite a long time” after sustaining an injury to his right knee in training on Wednesday (via Express).
That means that summer arrival Asmir Begovic will be handed the chance to shine against Everton this weekend, with youngster Jamal Blackman backing him up from the bench.
And Mourinho has denied that he will be looking to bring another goalkeeper in on an emergency loan, believing that Blackman will prove to be ready to handle a call up to the first team if he is needed.
“I don’t want to think about it (emergency loan). I just lost a goalkeeper. I want to be positive,” Mourinho said.
“He (Blackman) didn’t play one single match in the Premier League. He was on loan at Middlesbrough. I think he didn’t play one match in the Championship.
“I think he played in a (youth) cup match against Liverpool and no more than that.
“No experience of being in goal. He doesn’t have that, but he has potential.”
Blackman is yet to make a first team appearance for The Blues, but spent a portion of last season on loan with Championship side Middlesbrough, where he featured against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup.
