Chelsea are set to battle it out with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona for the signature of Porto starlet Ruben Neves, according to the Metro.
The 18-year-old has moved into the first-team reckoning at Jose Mourinho’s former side, having made 24 top flight appearances since his debut last year.
The Metro suggest that the Premier League champions are likely to make a move for the holding midfielder in January, but face the prospect of a bidding war should the La Liga pair decide that they also want the youngster.
Neves would be moving into a position which was dominated Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas last season. However, neither have begun the new campaign particularly strongly, and thus, Mourinho may be looking to send a message that he’s willing to go out and find replacements despite what the pair achieved last year.
Of the two, Neves is perhaps more similar to Matic in that he attempts to provide a stability that allows some of the more creative members of the side to play with freedom. However, he is also comfortable going forward.
