Those who thought that the David de Gea saga had reached a temporary conclusion now that the transfer window has closed until January were very much mistaken, after reports in Spain suggested that there was set to be another imminent twist.
The 24-year-old was denied a move to Real Madrid at the eleventh hour due to paperwork problems, but rather than see out the final year of his contract at Manchester United before completing a free transfer to the Bernabeu, de Gea is about to make a complete U-turn, according to the Metro.
Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol has suggested that Los Blancos are no longer keen on the goalkeeper, and thus, the former Atletico Madrid man is going to sign a new deal to stay at Old Trafford (via Metro).
Having not featured for Louis van Gaal’s side so far this season, there was a possibility – especially if de Gea made it clear that he plans to go when his contract expires – that he would sit out the entire campaign.
However, by confirming his desire to remain in the Premier League by putting pen to paper, it seems likely that van Gaal will be more than happy to bring the Spaniard back in from the cold, especially after Sergio Romero came in for criticism during the defeat to Swansea.
