Jose Mourinho appears to have lost his patience with some of the stars that took Chelsea to the Premier League title last season, as the Daily Express report that Branislav Ivanovic, Cesc Fabregas, and Diego Costa are all set to be dropped for the Blues’ Champions League group stage opener with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Like the rest of the team, the trio have struggled for form during this season. Ivanovic has been a part of the leakiest defence in the Premier League – no side in the top flight has conceded more than the champions in their opening five games – while the Spanish pair have also failed to help the side out of their rut.
Fabregas – who bagged the most assists in England last term – has yet to register an assist so far, while Costa has just one goal, which is six less than he managed by this stage last season.
The three players’ absence could see summer signing Baba Rahman make his debut at left-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta shifting across to his more natural position on the right of the back four, while Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy will be battling it out for the opportunity to start up front.
