Liverpool’s path to the signing of Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev is much clearer today, as the other side pursuing the player have been ruled out of the running for the time-being.
According to the Daily Express, the Reds have held talks with the Russia international, but faced competition from Los Blancos’ La Liga rivals Valencia for his signature. However, Los Che will now have to wait until January if they want to seal a move as the Spanish transfer window for incoming players closed last night.
And while Cheryshev had previously stated that he planned to stay at the Bernabeu, the Express claim that he is now open to a move. The fact that former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has not included the 24-year-old in either of his squads so far this season may have forced the change of heart about his future.
Though Brendan Rodgers may have felt that his business was done for this window, having made several signings at the beginning of the summer, the performance against West Ham, where the Reds looked completely out of ideas against a resilient Hammers side, may tempt him into the market for another creative player.
