Louis van Gaal is set to postpone his plans to retire by signing a brand new deal with Manchester United, according to the Daily Star.
The Dutchman had originally planned to called it a day in 2017, but now wants to discuss an extension in the new year (via Star).
The Star claim that van Gaal and his wife are enjoying life in England, and his relationship with the Red Devils’ CEO Ed Woodward is another reason why he wants to remain at the helm beyond his current contract.
While the style of football has arguably been more functional than attractive since the former Barcelona boss took over in 2014, there have been signs that the club are moving forward from the position from which David Moyes left them.
United are back in the Champions League after returning to the Premier League’s top four – and have made it to the group stage of the competition – and have made a positive start to the new season.
Yesterday’s victory over Liverpool provided a small insight into what United are hoping the future will be like, with new signing Anthony Martial sending the Stretford End into a frenzy with an excellent goal, and van Gaal appears to want to be a part of that future.
