Manchester United could be without captain Wayne Rooney for this weekend’s meeting with Liverpool after he didn’t check into the team hotel with the rest of the squad, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The Red Devils, led by manager Louis van Gaal, checked into the five-star Lowry Hotel on Friday night in preparation for Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.
However, Rooney, who is said to have raised his concerns with the Dutchman about the mood in the United dressing room being flat (via MEN) was not seen among the travelling party as they disembarked the bus and entered the hotel, giving rise to the fear that he may be carrying an injury.
The Report also goes on to state that youngster James Wilson was not spotted either, leaving just new signing Anthony Martial as the club’s only out and out striker, though van Gaal could also use midfielder Marouane Fellaini in that position if needed.
Rooney has yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this season, but succeeded in breaking the goalscoring record with the England national team with goals against San Marino and Switzerland earlier this week.
