Friday’s biggest Manchester United news and gossip.
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, 24, will be given a new start by manager Louis van Gaal, even if he fails to sign a new deal, the Daily Mirror reports.
De Gea is said to be worried about his prospects at Manchester United following the farcical collapse of his £29million move to Real Madrid and Van Gaal had axed him because of the uncertainty over his future.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says the Red Devils “lacked experience” in their handling of De Gea’s failed transfer to the Bernabeu, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Pérez accused United of taking over eight hours to send through the contracts for the deal, which failed to go through as they were sent after Spain’s transfer window shut at midnight on Monday.
United paid £36m for Anthony Martial to beat Barcelona, Paris St-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City to the 19-year-old forward’s signing, the Daily Mail reports.
They will pay Monaco an extra £7.2m if Martial scores 25 goals in the next four seasons, another £7.2m if he reaches 25 France caps and the same amount again if he wins the Ballon d’Or, according to The Sun.
David De Gea is falling back in love with life at Manchester United – thanks to help from Juan Mata, according to a Spanish journalist (via the Metro).
De Gea looked certain to leave United during the summer transfer window, with only a last-minute paperwork hitch seeing him not join Real Madrid.
