Manchester United open their Champions League campaign with a tricky trip to Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.
Louis van Gaal’s side will have been hugely boosted by the victory over Liverpool at the weekend, especially as they did it without captain Wayne Rooney, who is set to miss this clash with a hamstring injury (via BBC Sport).
Here is how we expect United to line-up for the game against the Dutch champions:
GK- David de Gea
The Spaniard celebrated a new contract by making his first start of the season last time out against Liverpool. He would have been pleased with his performance, and couldn’t do anything about Christian Benteke’s incredible strike.
RB- Matteo Darmian
Darmian has been something of a revelation since his arrival in the summer. He has well and truly solved the problematic right-back area with his consistently solid performances.
CB- Chris Smalling
The leader of the back four is likely to be given the job of keeping Luuk de Jong quiet. The 25-year-old has scored five goals in as many games in the Dutch league this season, so is likely to prove to be PSV’s biggest threat.
CB- Daley Blind
The former Ajax man would probably love nothing more than to get one over on Phillip Cocu’s side, and after his excellently-taken goal at the weekend, he may fancy his chances of being the one that settles the game.
LB- Luke Shaw
After a tricky year last season, the England man is starting to prove why United paid so much to bring him to Old Trafford. He has looked more assured defensively, and certainly isn’t afraid to get down the line.
