Arsenal have confirmed that they have committed young striker Alex Iwobi to a new long-term deal, according to the Daily Express.
The 19-year-old has yet to make a competitive first team appearance for The Gunners, but has been an integral member of their under-21 side (via Express).
His performances in the development squad earned him a call up for the pre-season tour of Singapore, which he followed up with his first goal against Lyon in the Emirates Cup.
Despite not yet featuring this season, he has earned a call up to the Nigerian national side, whom he is away with now.
Father and agent Chuka Iwobi, confirmed there have been a number of approaches about a loan deal for the youngster but manager Arsene Wenger is reluctant to let him go.
“A few clubs in the United Kingdom and abroad have approached Arsenal to take Alex on loan,” he said.
“But Arsene Wenger wants him to be with the first team because he did very well in pre-season.
“Alex’s preferred option at this stage is to go on loan to gain first team experience and come back to Arsenal later on to fight for a place.
“Hopefully a loan move will be sorted out by the time Alex comes back from international duty. A the moment discussions are ongoing.”
