Former Barcelona star Xavi has claimed that he wanted to join Manchester United had he ever made the move to the Premier League, according to the Metro.
The 35-year-old, who now plays for Qatari club Al-Saad, highlighted United’s long and illustrious history as something that sets the Red Devils apart from the top flight’s other sides.
And he revealed in an interview with Eurosport, that though his love of Barcelona kept him for ever really considering a move to England, he admitted that he can see the attraction of playing in the Premier League.
“To be honest, the Premier League attracts any player. It’s wonderful,” he said.
“The stadiums, the grass, the fans, how they live football. Everything is wonderful.
“When it comes to the big teams, Chelsea, Manchester United, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, teams with history.”
And when asked which club would be most attractive to him he replied: “A team with history.
“Either Manchester United or Liverpool.
“I know that other teams like Man City have emerged more recently, but, Manchester United are my favourite historically speaking.”
