Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been given the go ahead to make a fresh approach for Everton youngster John Stones in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.
And the champions will apparently follow the move up with a move for Paris Saint Germain’s Marquinhos as they look to bolster their back line (via Mirror).
Blues owner Roman Abramovic recently gave Mourinho his public backing (via Mirror) following the 3-1 defeat to Southampton last weekend, and the club are now prepared to back the manager in the January window providing he can get them back in contention for a top four finish.
Chelsea had moves for both players turned down over the summer, with Everton knocking back four bids for Stones – the last offer being worth £37m (via Mirror).
After missing out on Stones and Marquinhos, The Blues ended up signing Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji in a surprise £2.7m deal on transfer deadline day (via Mirror).
But despite Chelsea’s defensive woes, the Senegalese international has failed to get a foothold in the side, appearing for just one solitary minute during the League Cup victory over Walsall last month.
