Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he held talks with Manchester United star Memphis Depay before he left PSV Eindhoven over the summer, according to the Metro.
The Dutch winger has settled into life at Old Trafford well so far, but Rodgers has said via the Daily Mail that he looked into the possibility of bringing the player to Anfield, only for him to opt to search for an out-and-out striker instead.
“PSV had given us permission to have conversations with him,” Rodgers said.
“Apart from a huge talent, he came across as a good boy to me, but Liverpool were looking for a central striker and Memphis, until then, had primarily played as a left winger.”
The news may come as a blow to Liverpool fans, who may find that they regret missing out on the player as their season continues to stutter.
