Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has vowed not to drop out of form full-back Branislav Ivanovic, but will criticise him when necessary, according to the Daily Express.
The 31-year-old has not displayed his usual consistent good form this term and has been on the receiving end of some heavy criticism, with the Express claiming that a number of Blues fans calling for Mourinho to replace him with Cesar Azpilicueta and bringing Abdul Baba Rahman in on the left.
However, Mourinho has insisted that he still has faith in the veteran Serb, insisting that he is still the best right-back on the books at Stamford Bridge.
“That’s something I speak about with Ivanovic,” Mourinho said on the player’s form.
“Ivanovic likes to speak with me, and Ivanovic likes to speak with me about his mistakes.
“He’s not crying, he’s not a prima donna, and I’m critical with him.
“We speak about what he has to do to try and improve.
“I have no doubts he is my best right-back, and that he has to improve in some aspects of his game this season. Simple as that.”
