Manchester United are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen youngster Hakan Calhanoglu, according to the Daily Express.
United were linked with a £26.4m move for the midfielder at the tail end of the summer transfer window (via Express) only to see the deal fail to get off the ground.
The Express claims that the player had been left unimpressed by Leverkusen’s decision to sell star striker Son Heung Min so late in the window, and similarly looked to book his own exit out of there, too.
United’s interest has apparently not died down, and TMW have claimed that the Red Devils have even sent scouts back out to check on his progress with the view of making a move during the January transfer window.
However, they may face some competition from Italian giants AC Milan, who are also said to be stepping up their own efforts to prize him away from the Bundesliga.
Leverkusen are believed to be reluctant to let their talismanic midfielder leave, but are very aware of the growing interest in him in the European market.
