Wayne Rooney is expected to miss England’s final two Euro 2016 qualifiers and will fly home on Monday when the rest of the squad head out to Lithuania, according to The Guardian.
The Guardian also report that Roy Hodgson is considering shifting Arsenal forward Theo Walcott into a central position instead. Having watched The Gunners star star in the 3-0 demolition of Manchester United at the weekend, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Hodgson will make the same move as Wenger.
Rooney missed training for the second day running when England partook in their final training session at St George’s Park, and though he has remained with the side as their captain, there is a general acceptance that there is no sense in risking him with England already having their place in Framce secured.
Danny Ings, who had been hoping to make his England debut, is also a doubt after missing the last two training sessions and Jonjo Shelvey was another absentee.
