The Leicester striker’s rise from the bottom to the top of the league pyramid has unsurprisingly prompted much debate in recent weeks.
Having beaten the record for scoring in consecutive Premier League matches, Vardy can now expect his name to appear on Roy Hodgson’s England squad lists over the coming months.
One candidate being put forward as having the potential to follow in Vardy’s footsteps is Bristol Rovers’ Matty Taylor. He netted a 12-minute hat-trick on Tuesday night against Wycombe. @SkySportsNewsHQ provided a career comparison of Taylor and Vardy:

What these stats actually prove might be questionable. But one question that many Premier League managers might do well to ask themselves is:
Should we be looking down the leagues rather than abroad?
Maybe the chances of Jamie Vardy’s fantastic story being repeated are slim. However, there are undoubtedly players currently plying their trade in the lower leagues who could make at least a few steps up the league ladder.
Take Macclesfield Town’s striker, Kristian Dennis. He has bagged an impressive 18 goals in 23 National League games so far this season for the Silkmen. Dennis is on loan from Stockport County of the National League North – one division lower than Macclesfield Town.
It is a record that only – yes, that man again, Vardy – really comes close to.
Let us know who you think is the ‘next Jamie Vardy’!
