Aston Villa can use all the points they need and have been in talks with former Premier League goal getter Obafemi Martins to make a return from the MLS, according to The Sun.
The Nigerian striker revealed talks between him and The Villans. The 31-year-old claims that he has received an interesting offer to join Villa. The report also claims that an approach was made four weeks ago with Villa looking to sign him on loan.
Villa have endured an atricious season, sitting in 20th and last place in the table with just 11 points after 21 matches. They’ve won just twice so far, scoring only 17 goals in the process. No team has scored less this season.
Therefore, a proven goal getter like Martins would be welcome. He played three seasons at Newcastle and recorded 28 Premier League goals for The Magpies. He also endured a short loan spell at Birmingham City, where he scored the 2011 League Cup final winning goal against Arsenal.
Martins later played for Levante and joined MLS club Seattle Sounders in March 2013. In the US, the Nigerian has recorded 43 goals and 23 assists in 84 appearances.
