Atletico Madrid might be banned from doing transfers the next 14 months, the Spanish giants did put a huge price tag on wanted French striker Antoine Griezmann, according to AS.
The current La Liga leaders are making sure their prized goalscorer is as far from potential suitors as possible. The Madrid club are planning to boost his current release clause up from £60.5m to £75.6m to scare off interested clubs, while also increasing his wages to keep him happy.
The 24-year-old is enjoying another superb season in Primera Division. Griezmann has scored 10 league goals in 19 matches, while also hitting the net four times in the Champions League.
Griezmann has been courted by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Ligue 1 leaders PSG, but has also attracted a lot of attention from Premier League clubs. Mainly Chelsea have been keen to land the French striker, as recently as the summer of 2015.
The January transfer window took an interesting turn on Thursday when FIFA announced both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been banned from registering new players for the next two transfer windows.
