It’s a done deal. According to ESPN Brazil, Chelsea have verbally agreed a deal to sign Brazil striker Alexandre Pato from Corinthians.
The 26-year-old is set to sign a contract worth £1.77 million a year with the West London club. Earlier this month, the Brazilian rejected a lucrative offer from a Chinese second-division club that was worth £6.9 million a year.
Pato will be available to make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday. ESPN claimes an agreement with Pato’s representatives was finalised by Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia on Tuesday, with Corinthians expected to make an announcement shortly.
With Diego Costa in doubt and Radamel Falcao still out with a tigh injury, Loic Remy could be Guus Hiddink’s only fit option in attack against the Gunners. Therefore, the Blues were looking to add another striker this month.
For a while, Liverpool appeared to have to upper hand in signing the former AC Milan talent, but it was always said Pato would prefer to join The Blues when he leaves Corinthians for the Premier League.
Pato scored 15 goals in 47 matches during the 2014/2015 season on loan at San Paulo, after leaving the Italian giants. He arrived at the Rossoneri in 2007 with great potential, but never made the expected big splash. He’s recorded 63 goals in 150 matches for the San Siro team.
